Plaza San Juan, Taxco, Mexican Artist "MAYA", 1940's-50's,

Peso Priced Item:  This has written on the verso that it is Plaza San Juan in Taxco and that it was purchased in 1949.  Not much is known about this artist whose cryptic signature MAYA has been a source of confusion for years.  There is a known painter Reynaldo Maya born in Xochimilco in 1911, it is my belief that his signature is R. Maya and that the MAYA signature that these paintings carry is a different artist. Both artists painted scenery around and in Taxco at about the same time period.  This will continue to be an area of investigation for me because there clearly are two artists using Maya and the one's signed R. Maya, in my opinion, are not nearly the quality of the cryptic MAYA signed pieces. We have several listings on our webpage with just "MAYA" and one with R. MAYA.  This one measures  15 " by 18 " in a very nice carved Mexican frame.
