Estate of Shan McKittrick-Coulton
Shan and John Coulton moved from the US to Mexico in 1994 with the idea of building their retirement home along the shores of Lake Chapala. Shan found a property with the shell of a home on the malecon in Jocotepec.
She brought her lifetime collection of antiques, artworks, rugs, fine crystal, dinnerware and flatware, PLUS a few antiquities.
Her son, Jim, describes growing up with his mother, Shan, like living in a "time machine" moving further backwards in time from his boyhood until her passing in 2021. Her tastes evolved over her lifetime and as she traveled more extensively to more ancient parts of the world and while never fully abandoning her previous iteration, she continually added to her collection until the end of her life.
In the 1960s and 70s she owned a modern art gallery in Eureka CA and built a personal collection of Native American art (a few California baskets included in the Estate).
As her tastes matured, she purchased European antiques and tapestries, 19th century oil paintings from France, England and Italy.
Over time she began a collection of over 50 Persian and Turkish rugs, Greco Roman glassware and other archeological artifacts.
By the time of her passing in 2021 her "time machine" had taken her back as far as 2100 BC Egypt.
Shan was a uniquely talented individual with the ability to hand design architectural outcomes for the Casa Philae property and beautifully accessorizing it with her extensive personal collections of antique furnishings, artwork, tapestries, Persian rugs, Greco Roman, Egyptian and some wonderful Mexican pieces.
Not everything included in the sale will be shown here, there are lots of smaller items from her collection that we are unable to shoot photos of.
