Spanish Colonial Cristo - Ex.. Hacienda Buena Vista
Peso Priced Item.
Spanish Colonial Cristo - Ex.. Hacienda Buena Vista.
This amazing Christ figure has some bone inclusions remaining in his legs and the signs that at one time there were small pieces of bone also placed in the open wounds on his backside. A true Colonial carving made in the estofado process. Hand carved wood, covered with gesso and then painted. The aging shows a Wonderfull patina, impossible to reproduce, only time can produce such a patina.
Some paint loss, a few fingers gone after several 100 years of devotional use.
This is from the Ex. Hacienda Buena Vista near Itzlahuacan de los Membrillos.
I purchased this from the heirs to the Estate of a former owner of the Hacienda about 30 years ago and apologize that I can no longer remember the name of the deceased.
15" tall, 13" wide
