Pomo basketry is often admired for the great craftsmanship. The most prominent styles are plaiting, coiling and twining and they often used materials like willow shoots, sedge roots, swamp canes, saguaro cactuses, rye grass, the bark of redbud and more.
Approx. 7.5" diameter, (19cm) at the bottom.
Opening at top 4 3/4" (12 cm). 4 17" " tall (11cm)
The Pomo are an indigenous people of Northern California traditionally comprising around 20 to 70 autonomous sovereign groups or communities rather than a single unified tribe. They historically inhabited Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake counties, speaking distinct dialects within the Pomoan language family.
Geography: Lived across diverse Northern California landscapes, from the Russian River and Clear Lake interior valleys to the Pacific coastline.
