Islamic Trunk, Mother of Pearl Inlay, Mudéjar Designs
Priced in Mexican Pesos. A beautiful antique Islamic Trunk, Mother of Pearl Inlay, Mudéjar Designs. The wood shows the saw marks of 17th or 18th century wood workers tools. MOP Inlay is very complete, something that usually is not the case in these old trunks. Over the centuries the wood normally shrinks forcing out the mother of pearl inlay.. this trunk is the exception to that and a tribute to the workmanship of its' makers. Also notice the great hand forged lock strap, intact also after centuries.
These are usually associate with Syria (Damascus) but could be from Morroco or any other mid-eastern country.
22" wide, 11" deep and 11" tall.
Antique wire hinges have 'given out' so opening means lifting the lid off. Could be fixed .. but why? The originality of the old wire hinge seems important to me, as it is.
