Historic Chicago Family Heirlooms

Our latest Estate has it’s origins on Chicago’s Gold Coast in the early 20th C

The Potter Palmer family.

ie: Palmer House Hotel, Marshall Field & Co. and the Palmer Mansion.

Our client married into the family but has her own notable history. First as secretary to the Harlem Globetrotters.

Sales manager at Handmoor in Chicago, they specialized in selling in-season designer labels, such as Halston,

at discounted prices, featuring a full sales staff and fitting rooms.  To attract shoppers off the main retail path,

founder Philip Handmacher arranged for private cars to pick up customers from Michigan Avenue

and drive them directly to the store.  Those were the days!

Later she managed Burberry’s flagship store on Chicago's Magnificent Mile.

After she became part of the Palmer family she began her world travels.

The UK, all of Europe, including Ukraine, Egypt, Morocco, Gibraltar even as far away as the Amazon!

From all those travels and her 'good eye' for the unusual, she created an important collection.

Much of which we will be offering over the next few months.

First here in our online store and soon on display inside the Bazaar.

Our octogenarian consignor is now ready to share her

lifelong collections with our clients.  Peruse the amazing and

varied treasures that she chose, 19 years ago, to bring along

to her retirement home here in Ajijic!  (via a 52 ft. moving van!).
