Virgen Peregrina De Zapopan, Wood Sculpture, 29" tall
Peso Priced Item. Virgen de Nuestra Señora de la Expectación de Zapopan or Virgin of Zapopan, also known as the Virgen Perigrina (Pilgrim Virgin). This hand carved depiction of the most famous Jalisco Virgin was a special order for the owner in 1993. We do not know the artist, the information we have is on the verso of the sculpture. It was consecrated on Dec 3, 1993. It measures 29" tall and 19" wide. She is depicted with a sombrero and rebozo because she is a 'pilgrim' virgin, who spends about 6 months of the year traveling around Jalisco and the country. Perfect condition. The original is in the Basilica of Zapopan and is said to originate from 1541.
