Vintage Sergio Bustamante Paper Maché Sun, Signed Sermel, 55" dia.

Peso Priced Item.  SerMel started in 1963 when Melquiades Preciado and Sergio Bustamante created a workshop in Tonala, Mexico dedicated to the production of paper mache crafts. Bustamante later went on to start his own gallery and is today one of Mexico’s most famous artists. Today his vintage works are commanding very high prices and can be seen throughout the world. Sermel is now run by the Preciado family. This wonderful sun figure is an early work with great color and the easily recognizeable face of Bustamantes' Sun figures which he has used over the decade in clay, bronze and in the early days, Paper Maché like this one.  This is HUGE, measuring 57" in diameter .. In mint condition, hard to believe that this has survived for some 45 years and stayed intact.  It has been hanging on the same wall most of those years.  Look into those Bustamante eyes!
