Vintage Michoacan Table & Chair Set, Erongarícuaro
Peso Priced Item; Vintage Michoacan Table & Chair Set, from Erongarícuaro in the Calla Lily design. Made of Kiln Dried Sugar Pine from Canada, this is how these sets originated.
A Canadian man designed and manufactured them in Erongarícuaro back 30 years ago, he imported kiln dried Canadian Sugar Pine to make them.
The locals, especially in Tocuaro caught on quickly to how successfull the foriegner was in design and sales .. so like any good entreprenuer they started copying him.
Not too long after he made a set like this one, Tocuaro flooded the market with sets made of a lower grade wood, 100% painted surfaces (to cover the cheap wood) poor designs .. Garish, is what a lot of people thought when they saw them..
If you look at the base of this table, you will see, even there, the attention to detail. A mark of the original design and materials. Sorry, I can no longer remember the designers name, but I admired this furniture 25 years ago when I visited Patzcuaro and seeing how it held up for decades is a true feather in the hat of the manufacturer.
But this is the real McCoy. About 25 years old and still in very good condition.
Top is 55" diameter with glass, height is 32 1/2" tall. The seats are rush, they need cushions to protect them to get the seat height correct for the table top.
The 2 side chairs are 20 1/2" wide, the 2 arm chairs are 22 1/2" wide. All four are 42" tall at the back.
