Small Antique Mexican Sarape, Natural Wool, Jocotepec
Peso Priced Item:
A beautiful early 20th C. Mexican weaving in all wool. The brown color did not come through well in all my photos, the blue sky reflected off the lustrous wool and gave a darker tint to the brown. The design is traditional from Jocotepec (I am told by a native of the village). These are called Jorongos, the head goes through the hole in the center.
The condition is somewhat As-Is, the gap in the middle has some fraying at one end, the sides are completely raw (must be trimmed off). Maybe someone could make some lovely pillows or reduce the overall size to make bit a smaller piece and bind the sides. It is strikingly beautiful for its' simplicity. This measures 39" by 64".
