Peso Priced Item. Fine Semi-Antique Sarouk Carpet. A very good condition rug (Sarouks wear very well under high traffic). Medallion design. Very good condition! There was a period right after the 2nd WW that tastes in 'red' colors moved from a burgandy/wine red to a richer more alive red.
So not wanting to lose out on the current market, the Persian rug dealers around the world did a chemical treatment on the shade of red the weavers had used, pre-war, on their exisisting stocks of Sarouk. After muting the original red, they then 'repainted' (with a permanent dye) the red in the entire rug to match post war tastes!
One can tell if a rug is "painted" by comparing the red from front to back of the rug.
Rugs woven in the 50's (we have some in stock) will show that same shade of red, front and back!
