* Salvador Tarazona, Religious Ritual in Pico del Aguila, Valley of Mexico
Peso Priced Item.
An important artwork by Salvador Tarazona. Oil on canvas
He was a Spanish artist who was born in Spain in 1876 and died in 1961 in Mexico.
He is well known in northern Mexico for his murals in Coahuila.
He perfectly captured the expansive mountains of that area, here he tackles another mountain range.
Titled and signed lower right: Atando al Judas en las Estribaciones del Pico del Aguila.
This is an extremely large work, measuring: 36" tall and 47" wide.
Estribaciones means "foothills" in English.. Atando means 'tying' like capturing Judas ..
Interesting theme.
Pico del Aguila is located south of Mexico City, in the Tlalpan delegation; Pico del Águila is the second highest point in the Valley of Mexico at 3,880 meters above sea level. It is part of the region known as the Ajusco, a name of Nahuatl origin and which is translated, according to some sources, as "floresta de aguas" or "place where water and flowers abound"
