Original Photo of La Rusa, Ajijic Pioneer - Khyva St. Albans
Peso Priced Item. Original Photo of La Rusa, Ajijic Pioneer. 12" by 14" in a Victorian Frame.
"La Rusa" , Khyva St. Albans (born Eleanor[e] Saenger; 1896-1989), also known as Zara Alexeyewa, Ayenara Alexeyeva, was an American actress, dancer, and choreographer.
This photograph was taken in N.Y. According to her movements in the early 1900's this photo most likely was taken around 1918-20 when she was around 22-24 years old. The Apeda Studio in New York City was one of the finest photographic studios in it's time. (Time Period: 1906-1990)
She was quite a bit older when she arrived in Ajijic (in the 40's) I purchased this 30 years ago at a garage sale where the man who held her captive the last years of her life was selling off her things.
I was new in town and had no idea of her, nor her story in Ajijic, I just liked the frame!
A very colorful character, one of the great figures in Ajijic's ex-pat history.
Read all about her on Wikipedia: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khyva_St._Albans
It is an interesting read .. very interesting!! A good laugh too!
