(Ein Sommernachtstraum).Hand written Orchestration by Stokowski of the composition created by Carl Orff and published in 1952. 206 pages. 10.5" x 13.5"Extensive notes, drawings and translations to English from the original German dialect. Stokowski pasted over sheets of paper in order to make changes to the sheet music.Stokowski maintained a mistress (Natalie Bender) here in Ajijic.
When he passed in 1977 his manuscripts, a piano he composed on and other sheet music was left behind in Mexico.Gloria Vanderbilt (his wife from 1945-1955) was divorced from him by then and no one from his family went to Mexico to claim his belongings.When Natalie passed in the early 80's an estate sale was held and many of Stokowski's manuscripts and his piano were sold off to locals.
When I came to town in 1993 I became aware of Natalie and Leopolds relationship and it intrigued me. I found this manuscript about 5 years ago when a long timer passed and his belongings were offered at a garage sale.
As I continue to downsize my collections it amazes me as to how much and how varied my collections are!!
