Oak 'Master Key' Cabinet, Eastlake Period, Counter Balanced Sliding Door
Priced in Mexican Pesos. I've never seen anything like this. The glass door easily slides upwards to access the keys, it is counter balanced to keep it up and allowing for a carefree lowering to it's original position. The red velvet appears to be original to the period. The wood is American oak. I say 'Eastlake' because of the design on the top of the cabinet and the bronze flashed hardware that are true to the Eastlake period. (The Eastlake period of design lasted from 1870 to 1890 and was one of the many Victorian Era substyles. It was named for English designer and reformer Charles Eastlake.) .. This is in very good condition and measures 5" deep, 23 1/2" wide and 40" tall. It will accomodate 25 keys. Seems like a perfect prop for a local B&B or a boutique hotel here in the Lakeside area or be really eccentric and use it to hang a collection you have stashed away in a drawer .. old keys? key rings? there are all kinds of things that would show well in this cabinet.
.. We've had this hanging around the store for many years, I'll bet very few people ever really knew what it was for..
