Marbro Carved Alabaster Lamp
Priced in Mexican pesos. Marbro lamps are the finest one can buy .. Made in Los Angeles until 1990. This one is quite large and carved from Alabaster. It measures 53" tall (1.3m) and comes with a recovered shade. In prefect working order. There is a sign of an old repair at the narrowest turning near the base. It is not in any way weak or unstable (see our last photo).
Here is a brief history of the Marbro Lamp Company. It was established by Morris Markoff and his brother after World War II. Their first shop opened soon after the end of the war, located in the garment district of Los Angeles. They specialized in a wide selection of antiques and decorative arts accessories, but are best known for their lamps. The lamps use parts sourced from all over the world, however, and were assembled in their shop. In 1987, the Marbro Lamp Company was purchased by the Masco Corporation. Production continued under Masco until December of 1990 when the assembly plant in Los Angeles was closed. All the remaining inventory of Marbro lamps moved to another company, LaBarge Mirrors in Michigan, which was also owned by Masco.
