George Bevan. Sri Lanka Artist, "Young Men at the Beach"
Peso Priced Item; George Beven was born in 1929 in Negombo, Sri Lanka. While working at the Ceylon Observer as an illustrator and fashion designer, he took night classes at Heywood Art College where he met artist David Paynter. Once Bevan had completed his classes and tutelage under Paynter, he moved to London to attend St. Martin’s School of Art where he studied fashion drawing and illustration. Bevan became a full-time artist at the age of 55, and from there, demand for his work skyrocketed. This is one of his "Toothbrush" paintings, referred to because of the brush strokes you see in the water. It is oil on paper. This measures 36 1/2" by 29". It is signed on the right side, vertically and dated '96.
