Chinese Coromandel Screen, mid 19th C. 6 panels
Priced in Mexican pesos. From a local estate that originated in Eastern Europe, this screen has been in Ajijic since the 1960's .. brought here by the mistress of Leopold Stokowski (Natasha was her name). It was gifted to a local man and his heirs have left it with us for sale. It has always been thought to be from the 18th C. but I cannot make that determination with certainty so we're giving it a 19th C/ Attribution. It is exquisitely done and it very good condition considering how long it has been in Mexico and not properly cared for. It is 7" tall and each panel measures 1 foot so it is slightly over 6' wide when opened fully. Some condition issues, loss of color to the lower right corner on the wall below the building.
