This a very antique window guard, the way the side bars are bent was hand forged in the days of blacksmiths.. heating and pounding to get the rounded tip that would anchor into the window frame without any welding.
We have used these in trompe-l'œil installations, if you have a large wall perhaps as a back drop to your garden or patio. You have one of these old iron window guards installed as if there were a window there (sometimes even paint the outline of a window). Then you plant a flowering vine under the window guard and soon you have a beautiful 'trompe-l'œil' antique window in your patio/garden.
