Priced in Mexican Pesos: This rug was a palace sized Mahal of extraordinary design. Over the decades it wore and was damaged to such an extent it had to be cut down into sections and remounted as a smaller rug. The impressive wide borders are a sign of the huge size of the original piece. The reduction was done in Austria by a professional and later imported into the USA and now Mexico.
You can see that my latest photos show that the field section that used was reduced in size and the large borders were cut and rejoined to surround the field section. There are some areas where pile was low or missing and a type of embroidery was done to match the knotting.
