Antique Kazak Long Rug, 54" by 112 1/2"
Peso Priced Item; More than 100 years old, this Kazak long rug exhibits all the characteristics of the Caucasus region. The Kazak weaving region lies between the Caspian Sea on the east, the Black Sea on the west, Iran to the south, and Russia to the north. Kazaks are long piled due to the extreme cold in the winters there. The irregular wefting pattern, in red wool, is one of the unique technics of the Kazaks. The red weft passes 2, or 3 or 4 or 5 times between the rows of knots without any specific order or reason. These are very rustic, tribal feeling rugs. This one has marvelous latchhook guls throughout the center field and a very nice triple border.
This measures 54" by 112 1/2". Good Condition but there are areas of wear consistent with is age. Side overcastiing has been restored, ends good.
