Antique Hand Carved Religious Storage Box, Guatemala, Folk Design
Priced in Mexican Pesos .. There is a note inside this box from a the late owner stating that it served the Cofradia of a church in Guatemala .. Cofradia was a secular association of brotherhood that assisted the church in the propogation and spreading of the faith. We have no way to prove what the note says but the designs are consistent with Folk Art in Guatemala of the period and the wood and cosntruction put it in the 19th C. for sure. The pinwheel on the front panel is reminiscent of the Mudejar designs of Spain in the 15th-16th C. This measures 10" deep, 18" wide by 11'5" tall.
