Antique Alaskan Carved Whale Tooth Scene, Depicting a Polar Bear, a Seal, an Eskimo all on a slice of whale bone.  This is another item from Barbie Richman´s estate that we are at a loss to know more about it.  The figures are walrus tusk, the base is a slice of whale bone.  Tells a story of the daily life of an eskimo in materials that are part of his everyday life. Base is 6" across, figures are 3" tall.  Very good condition.  It is marked "Wales, Alaska and appears to be signed to the left of the mark "Wales.." but it is illegible to me.

The piece of art is from wales alaska. It's a village. The figurines are made from walrus tusk and the base is whale bone disc. And the art is depicting the everyday life of the Inupiat. Like a 3d petroglyph. We follow the tradition of utilizing every part of the animals that give their lives to us so we may survive and waste nothing of their precious gift out of respect for the animal it is our way of showing our gratitude. Without them we would not have survived. Signed
